Single-Port Robot-Assisted Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy: The SPROUT Study

The SPROUT study was designed to describe early multicenter Korean experience with a single-port robotic platform.

How was the study performed?

The retrospective study included patients with primary breast cancer who underwent single-port robot-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy, with or without axillary surgery and immediate reconstruction.

Data were collected from 12 Korean institutions for procedures performed between 2018 and 2023.

A total of 428 patients were included. Of these, 81.5% had invasive carcinoma and 18.5% had ductal carcinoma in situ.

What this may mean for patients

The study indicates that single-port robot-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy has been implemented across multiple Korean institutions rather than at only one center.

It provides information about procedure performance in selected patients during an early multicenter adoption period.

Patients considering this approach should still compare it with conventional nipple-sparing mastectomy.
